Ankle flexibility and swing stability

Could your ankles be the cause of your shaky swing? The importance of the often-overlooked foundation and an approach to improving it in Nakameguro

"I lose my balance and stumble at the finish," "I'm extremely bad at hitting shots from slopes," etc. Do you have these kinds of problems? While it's good to work on core training and strengthening your lower body, the cause may lie in a more fundamental area: stiffness in your ankles, the only part of your body that comes into contact with the ground.

The ankles play a very important role in the golf swing. They act as a "foundation" that stabilizes the body, adapting to complex terrain and absorbing the intense shifts in the center of gravity that occur during the swing.

What happens if your ankles are stiff? If the range of motion of your ankle (ankle joint), especially dorsiflexion (the movement of pointing your toes upward), is stiff, it can have various adverse effects during your swing.

  • Causes of sway: If your right ankle does not move flexibly during the backswing, it will not be able to support your weight and your body will drift to the right.

  • Increased strain on knees and hips: The knee and hip joints move excessively to compensate for the lack of movement in the ankles, which can cause knee and back pain.

  • Unable to utilize ground reaction force: Because you cannot plant your foot firmly on the ground, you cannot efficiently generate the ground reaction force necessary to increase your distance.

At our salon, we place great importance on conditioning the feet (ankles and soles) when it comes to improving golf performance.

  1. Talus adjustment: Adjusts the position of the bone that is key to ankle movement, restoring smooth movement.

  2. Calf and shin muscle release: Releases tension in the surrounding muscles that restrict ankle movement.

  3. Activates the sensory function of the soles of the feet: Improves the sense of balance by sharpening the soles of the feet.

Many customers are surprised to find that their ankles were the cause. Why not come to our hidden salon in Nakameguro and reassess your swing from the ground up? Stabilizing your feet will change your entire swing.
