Fundamental improvement of golfer's elbow (medial epicondylitis)

For those suffering from golfer's elbow in Nakameguro | The real cause and fundamental solution that can't be cured with compresses or massage

For golf enthusiasts, the sharp pain that runs down the inside of the elbow with every swing, known as "golfers elbow (medial epicondylitis)," is a serious concern that can take half the enjoyment out of playing. At first, it may just feel a little uncomfortable, but gradually it can turn into severe pain at the moment of impact, and eventually even holding an object can cause pain.

Many people first go to an orthopedic surgeon for a prescription compress or get an elbow massage at a local osteopathic clinic. However, you may find yourself stuck in a cycle of "it feels better at the time, but the pain comes back when you go to practice." This is because you're only focusing on the "result" of the pain, the elbow, and not addressing the "cause" of the pain .

Why does your elbow hurt? The key is "compensatory movement." A golf swing is a coordinated movement of the entire body.

Normally, it is the hip joints, spine (thoracic vertebrae), and shoulder blades that generate the most power. However, if these parts become stiff due to desk work or lack of daily exercise, the parts that should be moving will not move. This means the body will try to make up for the lack of movement somewhere else, and that is the "elbow." Forcing your elbow to pull back to compensate for the inability of your shoulder blades to move, or using your wrist excessively to turn the face of the club, will put more strain on the tendons in your elbow than they can handle, causing inflammation.

At our salon, we first perform a full-body screening to identify "what movement has stopped and is putting strain on the elbow."

  • Resetting the shoulder blades and thoracic vertebrae: This allows the shoulder blades to glide, enabling a smooth backswing.

  • Forearm and wrist adjustment: Myofascial release of stiff forearm muscles restores the ability to absorb shock upon impact.

  • Correcting your swing: We will advise you on how to transfer force in a way that doesn't cause pain and puts less strain on your body.

In a calm, private space in Nakameguro, we will help you find the "real culprit" behind your elbow pain and help you build a body that will allow you to enjoy golf for the rest of your life.
