[Get rid of the slice] Is the cause of your outside-in swing the "left shoulder blade"? Correct your swing habits in Nakameguro
Approximately 80% of golf beginners are said to suffer from a "slice." No matter how many times you hit the ball at the practice range, it just curves weakly to the right... Have you ever felt that way? Trying to fix your slice by forcing your wrist or changing your stance won't solve the problem at its root.
This is because the "outside-in trajectory (cut shot)," which is the biggest cause of a slice, often results from a structural problem in the body , rather than from arm manipulation.
"Still left shoulder blade" that causes a slice: The swings of people who slice have one thing in common. That is, the body opens up too early from the downswing to impact. Because the body turns toward the target too early, the club comes down late from the outside and scrapes the ball.
The key to preventing this "opening of the body" is the movement of the "left shoulder blade." In an ideal swing, the left shoulder blade stays close to the spine (chest open) at the moment of impact, and then is released all at once. However, if the left shoulder blade remains stiff and protruding outward due to a hunched back, the shoulder will lunge forward the moment you try to swing your arm, causing the trajectory to become outside-in.
At our salon, for customers struggling with slicing, rather than providing swing instruction, we take an approach that helps them "put their body in a state where it can follow the correct trajectory."
Increasing the range of motion of the left shoulder blade: Release the stiff shoulder blade and adjust it so that it can move smoothly toward the back.
Thoracic spine extension (arching movement): Improves slouching and creates a posture that opens the chest.
Preventing right side thrusts: Reset the tension in the right core to prevent the right shoulder from protruding too far forward.
There's no need to give up and think, "My slice is something I can't fix." If you change the way you use your body, your swing trajectory will change dramatically. Why not come to Nakameguro and say goodbye to your slice and aim for a powerful draw ball?
