Winter golf is full of dangers! How to prepare to avoid cold-weather injuries and keep your score up
Winter golf is played in the crisp, cold air. Not only do you worry about your score, such as a drop in driving distance or difficulty turning your body, but it's also a season that poses a serious risk of injury. What should be a fun round can be a disaster if an injury causes you to take a long break from playing.
Why do injuries increase in winter? When the temperature drops, the human body constricts blood vessels to prevent body heat from escaping. This reduces blood flow to the muscles, and like a rubber hose becoming stiff, the flexibility of the muscles and tendons decreases significantly. What would happen if you were to take a full swing in this "cold and stiff" state with the same feeling as in summer? Stiff muscles are stretched too much, causing a torn muscle, or excessive impact on joints can lead to inflammation. The most dangerous moment is the first tee shot in the morning when you haven't done enough warm-up.
Measures to enjoy winter golf safely In order to survive a winter round, it is essential to "make efforts to stay warm" and "make careful preparations."
Warm up areas that have "neck" in them: neck, wrists, and ankles. These areas have large blood vessels that run close to the skin, so warming these areas will efficiently warm the blood throughout the body. Neck warmers and leg warmers are essential items.
How to use disposable warmers: We recommend sticking them on your lower back (around the sacrum) or between your shoulder blades. Warming the areas where large muscles and nerves are concentrated will help improve movement.
Do dynamic stretches in the morning: In the cold, gentle stretching can be counterproductive. Do dynamic stretches, like radio calisthenics, to warm up your body while moving. (We'll explain the specific method in the next article!)
During the winter, we especially focus on treatments to "raise core body temperature." By loosening stiff muscles from deep within and promoting blood flow, we can help you regain a flexible body that can withstand the cold. Before you give up and think, "It's winter, so it can't be helped if my score is low," prepare your body. With a well-maintained body, you can perform at your best even in winter.
